Forms and PublicationsCompromise of Arrears Program (COAP and R-COAP)
You may qualify to reduce your child support arrears (past due support) owed to the government. The Compromise of Arrears Program (COAP) is a program designed to help non-custodial parents, such as yourself, reduce your child support debt. Child support arrears owed to the government may be reduced if your child support case meets certain criteria.
Please note that there is a special compromise opportunity for certain military personnel. Current reservists or members of the National Guard that have been activated to military service and deployed out of state may qualify for a compromise of governmental arrears that accrued if their current support order was not modified to reflect any reduction in pay from the civil workforce to military earnnings.
Family Reunification Compromise of Arrears Program (R-COAP)
California regulations may allow local child support agencies to compromise arrearages in limited cases where separation or desertion of a parent results in aid being granted to the child and subseqently, the child is returned to the parent. This compromise program is known as R-COAP or family reunification compromise. Please click on the Information Sheet link to learn more about R-COAP or contact our office.
