The U.S. Department of Labor has officially notified EDD that California no longer meets the minimum criteria to file Tier 4 Federal unemployment extension benefits. That means up to ten weeks of additional unemployment benefits normally available once someone runs out of Tier 3 will no longer be available. In addition, as a result of Sequestration Cuts your Tier 1-3 extension benefits will be reduced when you are eligible for the next Tier. A Sequestration Reduction Calculator is available on EDD's website that you may use to estimate your new weekly benefit amount when you reach the next eligible Tier (Tier 1-3) which, includes the 17.69% sequestration cut.

If you are currently receiving Tier 3 Federal extension benefits and will not be eligible to receive Tier 4 extension benefits or your Tier 1-3 extension benefits have been reduced as a result of Sequestration Cuts, please contact our office to inquire about a review of your current support order and payment on arrears.

Changes to Unemployment Benefits that can impact your Child Support. The Reemployment and Eligibility Assessment 2012 (REA 2012) is new legislation that extends Unemployment Extension Benefits through the end of 2012 if certain requirements are met. If you are receiving Federal Unemployment Extension benefits and you started or transitioned to Tier 1 or Tier 2 extension benefits on or after March 23, 2012; it is very important that you comply with the REA work search requirements and your mandatory in-person REA 2012 appointment. Child support obligors whose child support payment withholdings stop because their unemployment extension benefits are terminated for failure to cooperate with EED/EDA and comply with the REA requirements will see their support arrears balances increase. Higher arrears balances generate increased interest charges and could result in additional child support enforcement actions. For more information about REA 2012 including eligibility and requirements, please visit EDD's website.

The 2010 Census is very important for Riverside County residents. Accurate data reflecting changes in our community is crucial in apportioning seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and deciding how more than $400 billion per year is allocated for local infrastructures and services like new roads and schools, emergency services, hospitals, and job training centers. In 2000, Riverside County's response rate was the lowest of all metropolitan counties in Southern California. Now is the chance to change that and increase census funding for our community. The 2010 Census form will be mailed out in March and consists of 10 simple questions. Filling out your form and mailing it back in, is your chance to help our community and improve local services thus making a better tomorrow for Riverside County residents. For more information or to obtain a 2010 Census form online, please visit www.RCCensus.org.
